Palette, 2024, Intaglio ink on carved matt board, 15x17cm

feeling in site

My current body of work was inspired by transcendent experiences of “feeling” the colour of the land during my recent travels to the Kimberley and Pilbara regions of Western Australia. The deep purples, reds and often unexpected warm pinks observed in the land, rocks and sky, find themselves within these works. “feeling in site” is a compilation of intuitive carved mark making and surprising discoveries realised in the process of intaglio and calligraphic inspired printmaking.  Board was carved to create a series of matrices, the design in each conveying evocative organic form and texture. Each matrix served as a "container" for the colours "felt", bringing these feelings to life in each print. “Palette” the grid like matrix "holds" the limited palette that unifies these works while lying beneath each of the 6 matrices, are the discoveries that emerged as "feeling in site" unfolded.

sites of inspiration

On my travels, I took these images of textures, colours and shapes that have inspired my collection. I hope you enjoy these patterns created by nature as much as I do.

“feeling in site” was exhibited as part of NCAT’s Diploma of Visual Art Graduate Exhibition February 2025
